Here is some of the response from the kids who participated:
"It's an adventure, and you get a taste of what the pioneers went through, and a greater appreciation of the sacrifices they made," said 17-year-old Alton Skaggs.

I just went on a trek with our stake this last weekend. It was amazing!!! The kids were such "players"! They got into their roles and really learned all they could.
My favorite part ... hmmmm, don't know if I can narrow it to one favorite. Ok, one of my favorite parts was when the boys were taken away by the US Army to fight the mexican war. The girls were shocked that they were going to be alone. I was a chaperone to a family and my job was simply to remind kids to hydrate and to not let anyone die. The adults were not to help. Each family had a ma & pa, but they were youth also and had to deal with stuff. The ma in my group, as soon as the boys left, asked the rest of the group to stop and pray before going on. That was very inspirational to me.
Ok, so you know the drill. They are alone and have to go up a huge hill. Our hand cart was second in the line to have to go up the hill. The girls put down their hand cart to help the first cart get up the hill. Then all the "angels" came down to help them. The Bishops of the stake and Stake Presidency members dressed in all white to help the girls. It was a highlight for the girls to see how their prayers are answered and how often we forget that there are angels all around us sent to make our burdens lighter. Amazing experience.
Of course, I was thrilled to be home, showered, with a bed to sleep in. Ha! :)
