A Temple Wedding For SHeDAISY's Kassidy Osborn

Kassidy Osborn is one really cool LDS Girl. That’s right, she and her two sisters Kristyn, and Kelsi make up the country music group known as SHeDAISY. Raised in Magna, Utah, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, they now live in Nashville, Tennessee and are working really hard on their new album to be released soon called, A Story to Tell.

You would think that would be the big news, but NO WAY! The big news is Kassidy got hitched, yep, you got it, she got married to her longtime boyfriend Derek Williamson. You will never guess where they tied the knot...give up? They were married in the LDS Temple in San Diego, California.

"For being one of the most important days of my life, it couldn't have been more perfect and beautiful!", says Kassidy.

Congratulations Derek and Kassidy!

SHeDAISY will be performing at the Stadium of Fire on the 4^th of July in their home state of Utah.

Heber Valley Camp for LDS Girls

Did you know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints actually owns and operates an LDS Girls camp in the mountains southeast of Heber, Utah?

The camp is called Heber Valley Camp and it is located on a tract of land that covers more than 8,000 areas. The building of the camp started in 2003 and each year they have added more facilities with the ultimate goal of housing more than 5,000 campers. Wow...that is a big LDS Girls camp!

On June 1, 2009 at Heber Valley Camp the general Young Women president, Sister Elaine S. Dalton celebrated with 2,300 LDS girls high on the mountain top, unfurling a banner to virtue. The Young Women value of virtue was added to the other values- faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, and integrity- last November. Sister Dalton felt inspired to teach the LDS girls the counsel from the Lord contained in the Doctrine and Covenants asking us each to walk in the paths of virtue.

She told the LDS girls that were with her at the camp, “"So while you are here at Heber Camp and while you are walking on those paths, I hope that you will think about what the path of virtue will look like in your life. Sometimes it will be narrow. Sometimes it will be steep. But you are climbers. And you are not meant to be valley dwellers. You are meant to be up here in high mountain tops overlooking the grand vista you have. You are here on this Earth now for a glorious season and for a glorious purpose."

Sister Dalton explained to the girls that she had visited the camp before it was constructed and had wondered if making the camp would really be possible. She added, “"the Heber Camp is more magnificent than I could have ever dreamed. You are standing on ground that was foreseen by prophets of God for the very purpose to build and strengthen you, to strengthen your faith and testimony of Jesus Christ so that you might become the leaders of the next generation."

The beauty of Heber Valley Camp is one in which the “mountains shout for joy.” The beauty of the camp is like the beauty of each LDS girl.

"These are no ordinary days and you are no ordinary young women," Sister Dalton said. "Remember that. Let that sink into your hearts in the quiet of Heber Camp. Then when you go back to your homes, don't let anyone persuade you otherwise.

"It is my prayer that this day, here in the tops of the mountains, you will resolve to arise and go up to the mountain of the Lord – the temple. That you will resolve to stand for truth and righteousness."

Come Up To The Mountain- The Oquirrh Mountain LDS Temple Celebration

This August, the 130^th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will be dedicated in South Jordan, Utah. It will be the 13^th temple located in Utah and is called the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. “Oquirrh” is a Goshute Indian word meaning “wooded mountain” or “shining mountains”. It is pronounced “oak-rr”.

The youth of the surrounding area have been anxiously awaiting the dedication of this temple and have been involved by participating in a grand celebration held at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on May 29-30. They have practiced their performances for months to be ready for the event. Not only have they practiced but they have become involved in a media presentation of the event for the entire world to see. A blog called Come up to the Mountain was formed to inform and include anyone, in any area, in the celebration. They have even started a project called “What will I give” to coincide with the temple dedication.

In their own way, these cool LDS youth have made the Oquirrh Mountain Temple a part of their lives. In what way can you make the Temple a part of yours?

LDS Surfing Champion Joy Monahan

Did you know that the Women’s Longboard world champion, Joy Monahan is one cool LDS girl? Being raised in Oahu Hawaii, Joy is the first Hawaiian female to gain the ASP Women’s World Longboard Champion title.

Joy Monahan attends BYU Provo, so training for her sport can be trying at times...no waves!

Joy is not only really cool because of her surfing skills, she is also a really great example of someone who really tries to live what they believe. Featured in the May 2009 New Era magazine, an article called “Pure Joy” talks about Joy’s commitment to modesty.

“When a Hawaiian swimsuit company approached surfing pro Joy Monahan and offered to be her sponsor, the Honolulu native had some reservations. ‘I told them, ‘I really only wear modest one-piece suits.’’ So they worked with Joy to design a swimsuit that was both modest and functional for surfing. They even named it after her, and it has since become one of the more popular swimsuits of their line.

It’s also the one Joy wore last July in Biarritz, France, where at age 23 she topped 47 international competitors to become the Women’s World Longboard Champion. The first surfer from Hawaii to win that honor, she calls the experience the fulfillment of a longtime dream.

‘I just started to cry when I heard the final horn blow and I knew that I had won,’ she says with a smile that stretches almost as long as her surfboard. ‘I’d worked so hard on that goal.’

Joy stands out not only on the waves, but also among her peers for her high standards. She says that most people know she won’t do things like smoke or drink, and they respect her decisions.

‘At the awards ceremony after the championship, the girls were spraying each other with champagne. Most of the girls knew that I didn’t drink, but one girl poured a beer on my head,’ she explains. ‘The other girls were like, ‘You can’t do that to her!’ So she came back with a water bottle and sprayed me with water instead.’

Being ‘the Mormon girl’ and sticking to her principles isn’t always easy, Joy says. ‘For example, it’s hard, wherever you live, to be modest because so much of fashion is very revealing. It takes a little bit of courage to stand out and be different.’

But it’s worth it. ‘Whether it’s easy or it’s hard, do what you know is right. Then you can feel good about yourself.’

Joy lives up to her name. She’ll quickly tell you that the joy she feels comes from living the gospel. ‘It changes lives and makes them better. Along with my family, it’s my number one priority.’”

Are You The Same As Other Mormon Girls?

Do you consider yourself the same as other LDS girls? I mean, are you alike when compared to your friends who are Mormon, too? Most of us consider ourselves unique, and might even take pride in being different. As I have the opportunity to meet and hang with many different "types" of LDS young women, I am amazed at how different they really can be. But what I love best, is that in those things that truly "matter", most LDS girls are very much on the same page. And that is a GOOD thing!

We can appreciate the differences in each other, by our talents, opinions, activities, looks, etc... but we must also value those things that make us ONE. These are the exact things that will ultimately draw others to us, as well.

Think about it? Have you recently had a difference of opinion with another member of the Church? Probably so. You know, we don't all think alike, regardless of our religious teachings. However, we become and remain unified by our understanding of eternal principles, that become all of our ultimate guides.

I don't always agree with other members of the Church, about this or that -- but I do know that for the most part, we are all striving to live the principles of the gospel in the best ways we know, and understand.

I enjoyed this video about"What Mormon Teens are Like", because of this very example of how our lives help to strengthen each other, and our desire to live the gospel every day!

LDS Youth - Be Thou An Example Of The Believers

Here on KooLDSgirlZ, we LOVE the youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! This is the latest video released on the LDSPublicAffairs YouTube channel...

"The youth of the Church welcomed 2009 with an energetic display of unity and commitment to gospel principles during a special celebration at the Conference Center called A Brand New Year.

Thousands of youth gathered in Salt Lake City in early November for this performance that featured music and dance and messages of encouragement and hopeAll while broadcasting the greetings of even more Latter-day Saint youth from around the world.

Recorded before a live audience, A Brand New Year was sent out as a DVD to stakes throughout North America to be used as part of New Years activities for more than 500-thousand youth.

Original songs written for the evenings events were performed by an orchestra of 80 youth and a choir of 400. 18 young men and women headlined the night on stage and helped showcase the talent of the youth of the Church. The dominant message: set your standards high wherever you are, and remember you're not alone.".

Virtue: My Three White Dresses

In the 1993 October General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Elder L. Tom Perry gave an address called “Choose the Right.” In his talk he discussed the importance of choosing the right.

He testified, “I hope and pray that you great young people of the Church will have the courage to consistently choose the right! Moreover, I suggest that each of you find or create reminders to help you and your loved ones choose the right when a choice is placed before you. There is power in a tie tack, a CTR ring, or a white dress hanging in the closet if we associate them with our desires for purity and righteousness. Even more important than physical reminders is to have the conviction deep down in our hearts to live the kind of life that will cause us to make the right choices, not only for peace and happiness in the world right now, but also for peace and happiness eternally.

I promise you that you will receive everlasting happiness if you consistently choose to do what is right.”

In this talk he introduced a poem that was written for his granddaughter by her mother and recited at her baptism called,

My Three White Dresses

My mom bought me a white dress,

Not red or pink or blue.

She said it was a special dress

Like very other few.

There has been just one before,

A dress now put away,

That I wore some time ago

Upon my blessing day.

As a little baby clothed

In my first white dress,

My dad held me in his arms,

There to name and bless.So pure and clean was I just then,

With time to grow and learn

About the Father’s plan for me.

My glory I must earn.

Now I’ve reached the age to judge

The wrong road from the right,

And I am here to be baptized

Miss California Speaks OUT For Traditional Marriage!

This is so KOOL... Last night during the interview portion of the Miss USA Pageant, Miss California - Carrie Prejean, was asked about her feelings on the topic of gay marriage, by none other than Perez Hilton himself - a very gay man.

As many of you are aware, the very controversial subject of legalizing same-sex marriage in California, is an incredibly hot button - politically. It is obvious that Mr. Hilton "assumed" that he would get the answer that he wanted to promote all across America by asking Miss California for her personal opinion. Check this out!

There is a lot of speculation now, as to whether Miss California may have lost the title of Miss America, because of her response. What do you think?

Update: FYI - Carrie Prejean is not Mormon. The assumption that she is, because she simply lives in California - is IMHO very unfortunate. There are many people who support traditional marriage in California - that are NOT Mormon. I posted this, because I was proud to see a young woman stand up for her values - in opposition to a very liberal media. I could blog about my feeling in this regard, but an awesome blogger over on PearlDiver.com beat me to the punch and has said everything that I would have said about the subject. Way to go Pearl!

Zion's Trek

Have you ever participated in a Zion’s Trek activity?

Do you know what a Zion’s Trek even is?

A Zion’s Trek is an activity that commemorates a part of the history of the LDS Church and the westward movement. In other words, it is an activity where you get to experience what it was like to be a hand cart pioneer.

To participate in this activity you usually dress the part.

You spend your days pulling a hand cart holding all your belongings and supplies in it.

Perhaps you get a little taste of what it felt like to be a pioneer yourself.

This weekend was the Murrieta Stake of California’s Zion’s Trek.

Here is some of the response from the kids who participated:

"It's an adventure, and you get a taste of what the pioneers went through, and a greater appreciation of the sacrifices they made," said 17-year-old Alton Skaggs.

"It was freezing last night, and I was thinking, ‘They didn't have sleeping bags,'" Katelynn said about her ancestors.

"The small stuff, like water, you become pretty grateful for," said Kyle Frizzell, 17.

Uplifting Music

HeY TherE aLL mY LDS gIrL FRiEndS...Do you love music as much as I do?

The problem for me is... there is a bunch of music out there that is simply not COoL! Sure, it might have a catchy beat... but the words are not great at all! Come on... you know what I am talking about, don’t YoU? Don’t make me give examples now!!!

Does it really matter what kind of music you listen to?

Elder Boyd K. Packer taught that inspiring music brings worthy thoughts.... so think of what the opposite of that statement might be.... Uninspiring music brings__________. I will let you finish that one!

Elder Packer shared some specific ideas about music.....

• You cannot afford to fill your mind with the unworthy music of our day. … Such music as that is not worthy of you.

• You are a son or a daughter of Almighty God. He has inspired a world full of wonderful things to learn and to do, uplifting music of many kinds that you may enjoy.

• Pay careful attention to the music you program for your activities.

• There is so much wonderful, uplifting music available that we can experience to our advantage. Our people ought to be surrounded by good music of all kinds.

• If you are blessed with musical talent, develop a wide range of good music.

Why not go through your [music] collection? Get rid of the worst of it. Keep just the best of it. Be selective in what you consume and what you produce. It becomes a part of you.

So GiRlFriEndS...why not take the music challenge... get rid of the junk and start collecting some CoOl good music instead!

A New Book Called "Daughters of God"

Hey Cool LDS Girls... just in time for Mother’s Day... A new book that features three of Elder M. Russell Ballard’s talks about women of the Church has just been released.

The book is called “Daughters of God”. In the book Elder Ballard covers topics of various aspects of womanhood, including motherhood, divine daughterhood, and individual value outside of marriage and family.

Some suggestions Elder Ballard makes:

* Live more in the moment rather than rushing to get the next activity or item on your checklist.

* Don't overschedule you or your family's lives because "families need unstructured time in which relationships can deepen and real parenting can take place."

* Find time to cultivate your own talents and interests because "if you are not setting aside a little time for what replenishes you, you will have less and less to give to others."

* Pray for your children, asking specifically how God would have you raise them.

So for you cool LDS Girls who are future wives and mothers of the church, what better counsel can you get than from an apostle of the Lord. AND if you are still trying to figure out what to get your cool LDS mom for Mother’s Day... this might be just what you are looking for!

Spiritual Crocodiles

Elder Boyd K Packer gave a talk in General Conference in 1976 that is still a classic one for today, called Spiritual Crocodiles. In it he told of an experience he had while he was in Africa on Church business in relation to some scary crocodiles. A young ranger had volunteered to take Elder Packer around and show him some of the sights. This is an experience he related he had with the ranger:

“The antelope, particularly, were very nervous. They would approach the mud hole, only to turn and run away in great fright. I could see there were no lions about and asked the guide why they didn’t drink. His answer, and this is the lesson, was “Crocodiles.”

I knew he must be joking and asked him seriously, “What is the problem?” The answer again: “Crocodiles.”

“Nonsense,” I said. “There are no crocodiles out there. Anyone can see that.”

I thought he was having some fun at the expense of his foreign game expert, and finally I asked him to tell us the truth. Now I remind you that I was not uninformed. I had read many books. Besides, anyone would know that you can’t hide a crocodile in an elephant track.

He could tell I did not believe him and determined, I suppose, to teach me a lesson. We drove to another location where the car was on an embankment above the muddy hole where we could look down. “There,” he said. “See for yourself.”

I couldn’t see anything except the mud, a little water, and the nervous animals in the distance. Then all at once I saw it!—a large crocodile, settled in the mud, waiting for some unsuspecting animal to get thirsty enough to come for a drink.

Suddenly I became a believer! When he could see I was willing to listen, he continued with the lesson. “There are crocodiles all over the park,” he said, “not just in the rivers. We don’t have any water without a crocodile somewhere near it, and you’d better count on it.”

The guide was kinder to me than I deserved. My “know-it-all” challenge to his first statement, “crocodiles,” might have brought an invitation, “Well, go out and see for yourself!”

I could see for myself that there were no crocodiles. I was so sure of myself I think I might have walked out just to see what was there. Such an arrogant approach could have been fatal! But he was patient enough to teach me.

My young friends, I hope you’ll be wiser in talking to your guides than I was on that occasion. That smart-aleck idea that I knew everything really wasn’t worthy of me, nor is it worthy of you. I’m not very proud of it, and I think I’d be ashamed to tell you about it except that telling you may help you.”

I loved this talk especially because they made it into a really cool video for Seminary... Do you remember watching this one?

Ashley Moser Miss Hawaii Teen USA One Really Cool LDS Girl

What do you and Miss Hawaii Teen USA have in common?

Probably a lot, but one thing is for sure, if you are a cool LDS girl, so is she! Yep, the new Miss Hawaii Teen USA is Ashley Moser a really cool LDS girl!

Ashley lives in Hawaii and attends Punahou School, which is BTW the same High School that President Barack Obama went to! She also attends seminary every morning even though she has to get up at the crack of dawn and drive clear across the island to do it!

Ashley has been participating in beauty pageants since she was a baby. She actually was crowned first runner up in several pageants before winning this title as Miss Hawaii Teen USA.

Being in the public spotlight like Ashley is can bring a lot of exposure but it also can bring a lot of pressure with it too. Ashley chooses to see her new found fame as an opportunity for missionary service. She stated, "I'm very thankful for pageants. My mom did pageants. That's how she got a scholarship to BYU-Hawaii. She was not a member at the time so by going there, she found the gospel and my dad. As a result, our whole family is in the church."

Ashley Moser will go on to compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant this summer in the Bahamas. Make sure and watch for Miss Hawaii Teen USA, Ashley Moser, one really cool LDS girl!

The April New Era- Education Issue

The Book of Mormon, A Great Life Planner

The Book of Mormon is a book written for instruction to us for our day. It was written by the hand of God, by prophets who knew us and what we would be facing in our time. It is the best way to learn, by example, the ways to return back to our Heavenly Father. It is also one of the best ways to understand Satan and the tactics he uses to try and trip us up. It is really a great book to get everyday instructions, helping us to be better prepared for life. Make The Book of Mormon part of your “life planner.”

Look for the three blessings that President Hinckley promises anyone who prayerfully reads the Book of Mormon....

“Without reservation I promise you that if you will prayerfully read the Book of Mormon, regardless of how many times you previously have read it, there will come into your hearts an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord. There will come a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments, and there will come a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God.”

Modesty Is Always In Fashion

"A mortal body is a valuable component of God's great plan of happiness.

In the premortal world, according to the Bible, spirits awaiting their mortal experience "shouted for joy."

"Why were we so excited? We understood eternal truths about our bodies. We knew that our bodies would be in the image of God. We knew that our bodies would house our spirits. We also understood that our bodies would be subject to pain, illness, disabilities and temptation, But we were willing, even eager, to accept these challenges because we knew that only with spirit and element inseparably connected could we progress to become like our Heavenly Father."

Satan's punishment for rebellion against God is that he was forever denied a body, so he works to tempt mortals to despise the great gift they are accorded. "He tries to do everything he can to get us to abuse or misuse this precious gift."

Respect for the body as a temple housing the spirit would result in "a dramatic increase in chastity, modesty, observance of the Word of Wisdom and a similar decrease in the problems of pornography and abuse. ...

There could never be a greater authentication of your dignity, your worth, your privileges, and your promise.

Your Father in Heaven knows your name and knows your circumstance. He hears your prayers. He knows your hopes and dreams, including your fears and frustrations. And He knows what you can become through faith in Him. Because of this divine heritage you, along with all of your spiritual sisters and brothers, have full equality in His sight and are empowered through obedience to become a rightful heir in His eternal kingdom, an “[heir] of God, and joint-[heir] with Christ.”

Seek to comprehend the significance of these doctrines. Everything Christ taught He taught to women as well as men. Indeed, in the restored light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, a woman, including a young woman, occupies a majesty all her own in the divine design of the Creator. You are, as Elder James E. Do You Ever Wonder Why?

Sometimes we, as LDS Girls, are faced with all kinds of counsel and we simply do not understand the reason for it. It makes us simply ask, “Why?”

LDS authors John Hilton and Anthony Sweat will be releasing a new book on April 1^st that is called “Powerful Answers and Practical Reasons for Living LDS Standards.”

These authors use quotes from Church leaders and real-life stories, giving the doctrinal “whys” to back up the standards that are found in the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet. There are answers to over 100 questions, like:

• Why do some people who break the commandments appear happy?

• Why shouldn’t I just “try” alcohol, just so I can see what it tastes like?

• Why is wearing two pairs of earrings such a big deal? Or is it?

• Why is it wrong to steady date someone if we both have high standards?

• Why is 16 the magical age–is it all that different from 15?

• Why is pornography a big deal if it doesn’t hurt anybody?

• Why shouldn’t I wear flip-flops to Church?

• Why do some people who pay tithing still not have a lot of money?

• Why should I talk to the bishop about certain sins?

They have a really cool website an even have a Facebook group account where you can join LDS youth in your search for answers.

So if you have questions... find out the answers!

Giving My Baby Up For Adoption - "The Hardest Thing I Have Ever Done"!

Tamra is a young woman, who found herself pregnant, and not married. She referred to her unwanted pregnancy as a "crisis" in her life. Too many young girls today, find themselves in a similar situation, and unfortunately opt for having an abortion. These young women are often convinced that abortion is the best decision for everyone involved.

For Tamra, abortion was not an option, but neither was keeping the baby and raising it herself. Tamra made a very difficult decision, to do the right thing - which was also the hardest choice.

NO WAY To No God - Standing UP!

LDS Girls know all to well, that today, Standing Up for what you believe, among other things, could potentially cost you, your job! I was so impressed with this story, coming out of the UK - of a bus driver who refused to drive his bus, when he saw an Atheist ad, boldly displayed!

As members of the LDS Church, we are encouraged to Stand Up for what we believe - and we're pretty darn good at it. Among LDS Girls, we have a great support system for doing so... I'm not sure if this "Mr. Heather" has a team behind him, encouraging him to do the right thing, but I tend to doubt it. I think that's one of the reason I love this story, so much.

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Hampshire | Man refuses to drive 'No God' bus: "A Christian bus driver has refused to drive a bus with an atheist slogan proclaiming 'There's probably no God'.

Ron Heather, from Southampton, Hampshire, responded with 'shock' and 'horror' at the message and walked out of his shift on Saturday in protest.

First Bus said it would do everything in its power to ensure Mr Heather does not have to drive the buses.

Buses across Britain started displaying atheist messages in an advertising campaign launched earlier this month.

Mr Heather told BBC Radio Solent: 'I was just about to board and there it was staring me in the face, my first reaction was shock horror.

'I felt that I could not drive that bus, I told my managers and they said they haven't got another one and I thought I better go home, so I did.

Confessions of a Shopaholic - Movie Review

This movie is based on the very popular book, also called - "Confessions of a Shopaholic".

Rebecca Bloomwood is an adorable girl, living in New York, who has one tiny problem that has quickly gotten out of control -- she is addicted to shopping, and is being stalked by one very persistent debt collector. She currently works as a journalist for a gardening magazine, but longs to land a job with a top fashion magazine. Meanwhile, through a little bit of her own creativity, she is hired by this adorable guy who is the editor of a financial magazine. Although, she considers this job a stepping-stone to bigger things.

Rebecca ends up writing an article about the pitfalls of shopping, as it relates to finances - and it is a huge hit. Literally overnight, she becomes all the rage in the industry. However, no one except for her loyal room mate knows that she is in major debt, herself.

As Rebecca rises to the top of the finance industry, her secret debt problems are about to completely unravel - and they do. She risks losing everything, including her romance with the editor of her magazine, and her opportunity to land that fashion magazine job, that she desperately wants.

When everything finally hits the fan, and she is exposed to everyone around her - Rebecca is forced to look at her life, and make some very hard decisions about what is most important in life.

I really enjoyed this movie on many levels. What I most appreciated, is the fact that although the world of fashion and shopping were glamorized as we often see in our own world - we are also taken on a journey of personal discovery, with Ms. Bloomwood.

"Confessions of a Shopaholic" is a delightful movie, that is very appropriate for young girls. It is rated PG, and I would highly recommend seeing it.

I really like movies where we can see ourselves, and laugh -- and then have the ability to put things into proper perspective. So many movies today, emphasize among other things, a lack of values and send so many wrong messages. "Confessions of a Shopaholic" is one of the few movies out there, that helps us to see things, as they really are...

LDS Girls and Dating Dilemmas

Dating has always been a really interesting conversation among single LDS girls of any age. In fact there is a whole section dedicated to dating in the For the Strength of Youth guidebook.

The counsels that are given by our LDS leaders include:

Date those with high standards and in whose company you can maintain your standards.
Both Young Men and Young Women are responsible to help each other maintain high standards and protect each other’s honor and virtue
Honor the sanctity of the priesthood and of womanhood.
Do not date until you are at least 16 years old.
When you begin dating go in groups or double dates.
Avoid going on frequent dates with the same person.
Make sure your parents meet those you date.
Invite your dates to activities with your family.
Plan positive and inexpensive dating activities.

These dating guidelines are given for the protection of both LDS girls and LDS boys. By following this counsel you can have “safe” dating relationships.

Now for some fun...I found this really cool Blog written by a man named Dave Johnston. He has started a question and answer Blog about dating and relationship advice, called Dear Bro Jo. He has received some interesting questions about dating that he has answered and given some really KOOL advice. Now remember...it is just his opinion...but it is fun to see what he has to say.

Day of Faith for an LDS Girl

The New Young Women Value Virtue

In November Sister Elaine S. Dalton, Young Women General President for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, announced that a new value would be added to the Young Women program... that value is VIRTUE.

In a talk called “A Return to Virtue” she explained exactly what virtue is:

“Virtue ‘is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards.’ It encompasses chastity and moral purity. Virtue begins in the heart and in the mind. It is nurtured in the home. It is the accumulation of thousands of small decisions and actions. Virtue is a word we don’t hear often in today’s society, but the Latin root word virtus means strength. Virtuous women and men possess a quiet dignity and inner strength. They are confident because they are worthy to receive and be guided by the Holy Ghost.”

Isn’t that Kool? I love how she explains that virtue is strength! In a world where many people view LDS girls as “weak” we are taught that in our virtue we are strong. That strength allows us to have the confidence we need to “stand for truth and righteousness.” It doesn’t matter what age you are “a virtuous woman is above the price of rubies.”

How do we return to virtue and stay strong in the world today?

President Hinckley explained, “I offer you a very simple recipe which, if observed, will assure your happiness. It is a simple four-point program. It is as follows: (1) pray, (2) study, (3) pay your tithing, and (4) attend your meetings.”

It sounds so simple right? It really is.... and the promises are so great when you do.

“Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.

“The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever”

Diversity Makes Us Perfectly Cool LDS Girls

Isn't it amazing how we are all different, yet we have so many similarities with one another at the same time.

As I was pondering the topic of diversity today, I ran across some really cool BLOGS written by some really cool LDS girls. I loved what each of them had to say and I pondered at what it was that made each one of these girls special and unique and just plain cool in their own way. I have decided that it is the fact that they all have a divine heritage and that light just seems to radiate in all that they do.

Take for example my friend Michelle. Michelle is a BYU Cougars fan, and when I say fan, I mean fan! She gets a cut and she bleeds BYU blue! Michelle had a dream come true just recently as she had the opportunity to go to the BYU Football Women's Clinic in Provo, Utah. She got to meet the actual players and coach and spend some time in LaVelle Edward's Stadium.

Michelle knows just about everything there is about BYU football, she even wrote a Hubpage about them on Hubpages. She definitely has "passion" for the team, the sport, and the school, and she radiates this passion whenever she gets a chance.

I am not really a football fan my self, but I can respect Michelle for the love she has for her team, she is a real cool LDS girl.

Michelle and I have something in common however, and that is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We both love the church and the gospel with as much passion as cool LDS girls can. She and I both love to study the scriptures and learn to better understand the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Even though we are different in some ways, we are the same in so many other ways that we share a great love for one another. I like to think it is because we are both cool LDS girls.

Twilight- I Finally Am Ready To Give My Book Review...

I can't believe that it took me this long to finish Twilight. I had to read it in between comings and goings, things to do and life! LOL As I mentioned in my earlier post, when I decided to finally break down and read Twilight -- I just had to figure out for myself, what all the hype was about???

Okay, I am going to be brutally honest here. Some of you LDS girls might not even like me after I confess such a thing. After all - most of you are gah-gah over Twilight! So, here goes...

It took me until pages 300+ to finally get into Twilight. Not that it wasn't somewhat interesting, but I could not give it a 10 like so many of the LDS Girls, who have read it before me. Now, don't get me wrong, by the time I finally started staying up late to continue reading (you all know what I am saying here) It was riveting!

I will give it to Stephanie Meyers... she knows how to write for LDS girls in particular. She never crossed the line of sexual morality... although, IF Edward and Bella had not the physical conflict, of him being a vampire and she a human - who knows what they would have done? So, their remaining chaste and appropriate in the book Twilight - was not from any kind of religious morality. You all understand this, right?

Nonetheless, because of the general morality of the book Twilight, LDS girls, and myself... allowed themselves to be BITTEN by Twilight!

Once bitten, and it is all over. I am still not sure of how I feel about the relationship that is portrayed between Edward and Bella, as yet? I want to feel that it is not really a healthy model for young women today in general. Yet, I understand the fantasy involved...

Every girl,wants to be cherished, protected and taken care of by someone who loves her desperately and she loves equally in return... desperately! This is the fairytale of every young girl... which follows her into womanhood.

But, this is not real life. This should not be a disappointment though. I think that is is just fine, to desire this kind of love. This may sound kind of silly to some of you cute LDS girls, but perhaps you will get it...

I really believe, that each one of us will eventually have the capacity to love and be loved in the way that our hearts desire -- and that will come, because of the Savior's great love for us. He has Atoned for our major imperfection. My husband is wonderful, but still -- he is not Edward! LOL But he will be so much better -- if I am patient with his flaws. Hopefully, he is patient with me too.

We have been stuck together for 30 years now... and we are both very flawed:-) Isn't it wonderful to know somewhere deep inside ourselves - that perfect love, is part of the eternal plan of happiness?

I think that this could be one of the reasons, that the story told in Twilight - finds such appeal, to particularly young women.

Since I have been bitten, so to speak - I am ready to start reading NEW MOON now.

The Divine Institution of Marriage

For LDS girls of the Mormon Church, the Divine Institution of Marriage is considered not only sacred, but it is one of their greatest goals in life. Now, that is not to say that LDS girls and young women don't have other goals, such as personal development through education, etc... But, there is no doubt that marriage, in the proper order of an LDS girl's life - is what most every LDS girls dreams about.

I wanted to give all LDS young women a heads-up on some very important commentary - that was just published today, on the LDS newsroom, about the Divine Institution of Marriage and what that means to members of the LDS Church. This is the official position of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, regarding what is going on with the same-sex marriage issue, which is currently - literally - being fought!

There is a great battle taking place, in our very midst. It is most likely very similar to that which we each stood for in our pre-mortal lives. It is a battle or war of words, philosophies and ideas. It is very easy to get swayed by the popular trends of the world in which we live in. For instance, even many good members are of the Church, are of the opinion that we should live and let live - when it comes to lifestyle choices.

Okay... that is fine.

But wait a minute! Where is the line to be drawn, in this kind of thinking? Particularly when that kind of thinking could cause you to lose everything that you hold dear... even the ability to enjoy the Divine Institute of Marriage that you dream about someday.

I really want LDS girls to think very carefully about potentially choosing to go with a popular trend and not stand for traditional marriage as our leaders have asked us to actively do...

Remember, it is your posterity that you are Standing For - and this is Something that is worth your best efforts to maintain. What kind of a world are YOU creating NOW for your own children to be raised in... think about it?

LDS Girls Who Understand the Power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ

A dear friend of mine just sent this to me, and I wanted to share it with all of you cool LDS girls. Perhaps you have read this before...

It is my prayer, that each LDS girl, will come to understand the universal ability of the Atonement of Jesus Christ - to cleanse each one of us personally. When we understand the power of the Atonement in our own lives - we come to accept that same power in and for those around us. How grateful each one of us should be, for our Savior Jesus Christ, His Grace and Mercy - of which we are all recipients.

It is because of Jesus Christ, that each one of us are able to repent and progress in this life. It is important to know, that each one of us are a child of God, and that the Atonement is for everyone - regardless of what they may have done, etc...

THE BLOOD

One night in a church service a young woman felt the tug of God

at her heart.

She responded to God's call and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.

The young woman had a very rough past, involving alcohol,

drugs, and prostitution.

But, the change in her was evident. As time went on she became

a faithful member of the church.

She eventually became involved in the ministry,

teaching young children.

It was not very long until this faithful young woman

had caught the eye and heart of the pastor's son.

The relationship grew and they began to make wedding plans.

This is when the problems began.

You see, about one half of the church did not think that a woman

with a past such as hers was suitable for a pastor's son.

The church began to argue and fight about the matter.

So they decided to have a meeting.

As the people made their arguments and tensions increased,

the meeting was getting completely out of hand.

The young woman became very upset about all the things

being brought up about her past.

As she began to cry the pastor's son stood to speak.

He could not bear the pain it was causing his wife to be.

He began to speak and his statement was this:

'My fiancee's past is not what is on trial here.

and use it as a weapon against our brothers and sisters.

Forgiveness is a very foundational part of the Gospel

of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If the blood of Jesus does not cleanse the other person completely

then it cannot cleanse us completely.

If that is the case, then we are all in a lot of trouble.

What can wash away my sins?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus! End of case!!!!

LDS girls who have come to understand the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ - are blessed with a peace that is not of this world. As you seek the Lord in your daily lives, and repent of that which is needful for yourself - you will begin to notice an increase of love for others.

As we feel the love that our Savior has for us - we know also, that this love extends to others as well. I believe that LDS girls who know the Savior and His Redeeming love - develop a greater love for others.

It is this Christlike love, which LDS girls focus on developing for others... that also allows them to love themselves even more. Learning to accept ourselves and others - is one of the great evidences of a testimony of Jesus Christ and His Atoning Power.

Kelsey Nixon One Cool LDS Girl Who Really Can Cook!

One thing cool LDS girls know is FOOD! Mormon cooking is famous the world over...and now in the spotlight is Kelsey Nixon who just participated in "The Next Food Network Star". Unfortunately Kelsey was not picked by the panel of judges but she won the "Fan Favorite" vote hands down!

Kelsey graduated from BYU and then went on to Kitchen Academy to earn her professional culinary arts degree. From there she trained with the French Culinary Institute.

The cool thing is that when this LDS girl attended BYU she had her own cooking show called, Kelsey's Kitchen. She produced over 100 episodes of the show, revealing recipes that were simple yet yummy!

Her white chocolate tilapia dish is being featured in Red Lobster menus nationwide, and another winning recipe was featured in Bon Appetit magazine. Boy, this LDS girl can cook!

Kelsey is married to Robby Egan and lives in Provo, Utah while her husband finishes his degree in advertising. Both she and her husband will then be off to New York to pursue careers there.

Cool LDS Girl In The Olympics

When 12-year-old LDS girl Melanie Roach told her family that one day she would compete at the Olympics, no one really doubted her, according to her mother, Bonnie Kozoff, as reported in the Tacoma News Tribune.

As an LDS girl Melanie had a goal and today she is going to finally be able to see her goal completed. She is now a 33 year old mother who lives in Bonney Lake, Washington.

This LDS girl will be competing in the Beijing Olympics in weight lifting.

Make sure and watch for her progress as you watch the Olympic games... and cheer for one incredible LDS girl!

I loved this new video from You Tube... when I saw it... it reminded me of the cool LDS Girls I know today! I hope you like it as much as I did!

President Spencer W. Kimball who was a prophet of the church when I was young... gave this following prophetic statement back in November 1979...

"Much of the major growth that is coming to the Church in the last days will come because many of the good women of the world (in whom there is often such an inner sense of spirituality) will be drawn to the Church in large numbers. This will happen to the degree that the women of the Church reflect righteousness and articulateness in their lives and to the degree that the women of the Church are seen as distinct and different—in happy ways—from the women of the world."

Good Job Chelsie...You are one Cool LDS Girl

Cool LDS Girl Chelsie Hightower, is an incredible dancer, who really represented on So You Think You Can Dance. We will miss her on the show...but will look for this Cool LDS Girl in the finale and then on tour.

In an interview Chelsie said that hip hop was the hardest style for her to learn because it was just so different from what she has always done best, which is ballroom dancing. This is one cool LDS Girl who took on a challenge and really did it up right as you can see in the dance video "Bleeding Love." I think her HIP HOP rocked!

What do you LDS Girls think?

Where does Chelsie see herself in ten years?
"Married probably, teaching dance and continuing to dance myself."

Way to go Chelsie... you are HOT!

LDS Girls Understanding Isaiah...?

What on earth must I be thinking... is it possible for LDS Girls to actually understand the Book of Isaiah from the Old Testament?

Isaiah is a pretty important guy really... in the Book of Mormon the prophet Nephi refers to him a lot. He even asks his brother Jacob to preach to the people from the words of Isaiah, asking them to "liken them unto themselves".

Jacob said, "And now, behold, I would speak unto you concerning things which are, and which are to come; wherefore, I will read you the words of Isaiah. And they are the words which my brother has desired that I should speak unto you. And I speak unto you for your sakes, that ye may learn and glorify the name of your God. And now, the words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake concerning all the house of Israel; wherefore, they may be likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel. And there are many things which have been spoken by Isaiah which may be likened unto you, because ye are of the house of Israel."

You might not have recognized that passage because it is from 2Nephi...the part everyone skips... the Isaiah chapters. lol

But...guess what.... I found this really cool book on-line called Isaiah Insights to Teenage Temptations that is really rad!

A real "Cool LDS Girl" Michaela Stephens wrote the book with the following goal in mind:

LDS Girls Doing Cool Things To Help Others

I found this really cool story about LDS Girls who made a difference just today! I was cruising the Internet and found this story, and I thought I would share it with my LDS Girlfriends here at KooLDSgirlZ.

Apparently, back in September 2007 a group of Young Women from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Saipan branch were looking for a project they could do in the “Good Works” area of the YW Values and found a great one.

A new dialysis center was being constructed in the area called the Dr. Jose T. Villagomez Center for Public Health and Dialysis. In this particular area of medical treatment the rooms must be kept very cold in order to keep it germ free. This was a concern for the patients; they are often made uncomfortable by the low temperature.

So can you guess what this group of LDS Girls did?

Yep, they organized a project to make lap quilts to be donated to the dialysis center.

The quilts were made from aloha fabric on the island, which gave them a real island look, by the LDS girls. Then the quit tops were sent to a group of LDS Women in Salt Lake City, Utah (The Mill Creek Ward), who tied them and bound them for the LDS Girls and sent them back to Saipan so that they could donate them to the center.

This project was a cool group effort between two different LDS Girl groups separated by the Pacific Ocean but joined in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The connection was made by a really cool LDS Girl, Jac Wilde Pate who was a former female missionary that served in Saipan on her mission.

Just look what can happen when cool LDS Girls work together... what do you think? Any of you cool LDS Girls have any other great stories to share?...Post them here!

TWILIGHT and LDS Girls - What's UP With That?

I have finally decided to give in to all the HYPE about the book - TWILIGHT. Yes, I know - there are now three books in the TWILIGHT series - with the fourth coming out this Saturday. I understand that I am behind - but stay with me, okay?

I first heard about the book Twilight, from dare I say -- a lot of really kool LDS girls, who attend the Singles Branch - where my husband and I are shepherds. (like the coolest job in the Church)

These LDS girls, that are normally rational and reasonably thinking young women - upon bringing up the subject of TWILIGHT amongst themselves - completely lost all control of their senses! I just sat there, observing the excited conversation that they were exchanging between each other... and then I piped in and ask the golden question -

"What's twilight and who in the heck in Edward"?

Mere words really cannot help you visualize the immediate frenzy that immediately ocured - with that one "Golden" question. Missionaries could only hope for such a contact as myself. I was up for conversion and every single girl who had read TWILIGHT knew it!

I fast became, for these now insane LDS girls - their newest VICTIM to join with them in the insanity that seems to be sweeping the WORLD with TWILIGHT MANIA!

Well, to make a short story even a bit shorter... after a few weeks of listening to these really awesome LDS girls, assure me that the book was totally clean, and amazingly awesome - LdsNana picked it up at Barnes and Noble.

That's right -- I am now reading the first book in the very popular TWILIGHT series... TWILIGHT.

I now know WHO this EDWARD is... and apparently he is DANGEROUS!
